How Open Field Works

Challenge anyone — in any league, on any platform — to a head-to-head matchup. Open Field's scoring engine harmonizes different league formats so the competition is always on a level playing field. The Barbecue Test: Let's say you're at a barbecue (or on a golf course, or at a bar) and you get into a friendly argument with the guy next to you about whose fantasy team is better, can you actually settle it right there? No logging in to each other's leagues, no converting scoring systems in your head, no “well my league is PPR and yours is standard so it's not really fair” — just pull out your phone, challenge him, and have a result by the end of the games.

The Challenge

Import your team, send a challenge, see who wins

There's no draft, no season-long commitment, and no limit to who you can challenge. Import your existing roster from any platform or build one manually — any two managers, any rosters, any week.

1. Import your team or build one

Connect your Sleeper, ESPN, Yahoo, or CBS league and your current roster imports automatically. Prefer to pick manually? You can do that too — or mix both. No league connection required.

2. Send the challenge

Share a challenge link with your opponent. They lock their own lineup before kickoff and you both compete on the same harmonized scoring card for the week.

3. Watch it settle

Scores update live as games play out Sunday. When the last game closes, the winner is declared. Your challenge history and record are tracked in your account.

Fair play

Scoring harmonization — always a level field

The challenge is cross-platform by design. Your opponent might play in a PPR league on ESPN while you play standard-scoring on Sleeper. Open Field normalizes both rosters to a neutral half-PPR baseline — the same projection system and scoring card for everyone — so the matchup reflects actual talent, not format advantage.

FAQ

Common questions

Can I challenge someone in a different league?
Yes — that's the whole point. Open Field harmonizes scoring so a challenge between a PPR team and a standard-scoring team is always fair. Both rosters are evaluated on the same neutral scoring card.
Do both players need a WaiverWire account?
You need a free account to create a challenge. Your opponent can view the matchup and their score via a shared link without logging in, though they'll need an account to accept and track stats officially.
How does scoring harmonization work?
Open Field converts each roster to a standardized scoring baseline — normalizing PPR vs. standard vs. half-PPR differences — so neither player is advantaged by their league's format. The same players, scored the same way, every time.
How long does a challenge last?
One week. You pick the week, lock your rosters before kickoff, and the winner is determined when the last game of the week settles. You can challenge the same opponent every week if you want.
Can I use my Sleeper or ESPN roster?
Yes. Connect your league in your WaiverWire account and your current roster auto-populates your challenge lineup. You can also enter players manually if you'd rather not connect a league.
What happens if a player on my roster is injured or on bye?
Injured or bye players score 0 — same as in any fantasy league. There's no automatic substitution, so it pays to review your lineup before the lock.
Is there a cost to challenge?
No — Open Field challenges are included with a free WaiverWire account. No entry fees, no tokens, no credits.
Can I run multiple challenges at once?
Yes. You can have multiple active challenges in the same week against different opponents. Each challenge is scored independently.
