Week 8 Waiver Wire Pickups
Wilson, Coleman, then Cooper
By the WaiverWire crew.
The back we told you to hold just took 24 carries for 100 yards. The loud name on the wire is a Bronco in his first game back, and the other two backs in that room scored too. Pay for the carries you can see.
We checked rosters this week in 17 leagues our members have connected. When you see "free in 7 of 17," that's where the number comes from. These leagues run deep, about 210 rostered players each versus roughly 190 in a standard 12-team league, so if yours is shallower, more of these are free than the counts suggest.
Points are half-PPR. Share prices are Tuesday's board. Claims run Wednesday morning. Panthers at Packers is Thursday night, so set that one early. Saints, Giants, 49ers and Texans are on bye.
The 20-second version
- Emanuel Wilson, RB, SEA. FAAB $8. Exchange $9.79. 24 carries, 100 yards, a touchdown. Free in 7 of 17. Monday night.
- Jonah Coleman, RB, DEN. FAAB $6. Exchange $7.16. First game back, 49% of the snaps, 7.9 points. Free in 6 of 17.
- Omar Cooper Jr., WR, NYJ. FAAB $6. Exchange $15.97. Second straight week over 19. Bid under the share. Free in 6 of 17.
- Chig Okonkwo, TE, WAS. FAAB $4. Exchange $7.51. Seven catches on seven targets before the bye. Free in 13 of 17.
- Zonovan Knight, RB, ARI. FAAB $4. Exchange $5.16. Cut to $1 if Love practices in full. Free in 12 of 17.
That's priority order, not price order. None of these five play Thursday. If Wilson and Coleman are gone, start with Cooper.
Probably rostered, but check: Tony Pollard is free in 0 of 17. Braelon Allen and Rachaad White are free in 1 of 17. If one is free in yours, he goes near the top. Pollard just scored 35.0.
The reasons are below.
Last week's book
Ranked five: 1 hit, 3 pushes, 1 miss. How we count: a hit is when the points arrived (roughly 12 or more in half-PPR), a push is when the role held but the points didn't, and a miss is neither.
Off the ranked list:
- Right: Emanuel Wilson, the hold. 24 carries, 100 yards, a touchdown, 1 catch, 18.0 points, on 48% of the snaps. He's first this week if he's free.
- Right: Tony Pollard. 25 carries, 129 yards, 3 touchdowns, 3 catches, 35.0. He's on a team in all 17 leagues we checked.
- Right: Josh Jacobs and Puka Nacua. Jacobs came back for 17.6. Nacua had 10 targets and 17.8. The dip from last week paid.
- Wrong: RJ Harvey, again. 26% of the snaps, 3 carries, a 54-yard catch, 13.0. If you still have him, hold.
- Wrong: the Garrett Wilson dip. 85% of the snaps, 3 targets, 3.6 points. Omar Cooper scored 20.0. Don't buy that dip this week.
- Hold: Kyle Monangai. Still questionable (toe), still no line, share still $8.88. D'Andre Swift had 22 carries and 17.0. Hold Monangai.
The ranked five, misses first:
- Miss: Kendre Miller. 39% of the snaps, 8 carries, 6 rushing yards, 3 catches, 4.3 points. The Saints are on bye, so he can't help this week. Travis Etienne is still on IR (hamstring). Hold Miller through the bye if you have the room.
- Push: Germie Bernard. 91% of the snaps, 5 targets, 3 catches, 27 yards, 4.2 points. The job held. Hold. His share fell to $8.84.
- Push: Dameon Pierce. 68% of the snaps, 14 carries, 47 yards, a touchdown, 11.3 points. Saquon Barkley played 16% of the snaps and scored 14.1. Pierce is questionable. We don't have the injury.
- Push: DeMario Douglas. 65% of the snaps, up from 59%. 4 targets, 3 catches, 23 yards, 3.8 points.
- Hit: Omar Cooper Jr. 64% of the snaps, 5 catches, 115 yards, a touchdown, 20.0 points. He's third this week if he's still out there.
The next three went 0 hits, 2 pushes, 1 miss. Pushes: Michael Mayer (82% of the snaps, 3 targets, 4.7) and Tyler Higbee (74%, 3 targets, 2.4). Miss: Keenan Allen. His snaps fell from 71% to 52%, 3 targets, 4.6 points.
All eight names: 1 hit, 5 pushes, 2 misses.
Buy: ranked claims ($100 FAAB)
Our projections lag a role change by about a week, so we use them as a ceiling on the bid, not a forecast. Wilson's 24 carries aren't in his 6.1-a-game projection below.
1. Emanuel Wilson, RB, SEA. FAAB $8. Exchange $9.79.
The usage: 48% of the snaps, 24 carries, 100 yards, a touchdown, 1 catch for 15 yards, 18.0 points. The week before was 32% of the snaps and 14 carries for 5.2. We told you to hold. The carries showed up.
The opening: George Holani fell to 36% of the snaps and 2.8 points. This is a lead, not a monopoly. The share jumped to $9.79 from $6.56, and the updated projection is 6.1 a game, so the bid is $8 and not a blank check.
Free in 7 of 17. Bears at Seahawks, Monday 8:15pm ET.
2. Jonah Coleman, RB, DEN. FAAB $6. Exchange $7.16.
The usage: first game back, 49% of the snaps, 9 carries, 54 yards, 2 catches for 15, 7.9 points. J.K. Dobbins played 23% and scored 8.3 on a touchdown. RJ Harvey played 26% and scored 13.0 on a long catch.
The opening: three backs scored. Nobody has the job yet. Updated projection 8.7 a game, which is a committee number, not a featured one. That's why the bid is $6.
Free in 6 of 17. Chiefs at Broncos, Sunday 4:25pm ET.
3. Omar Cooper Jr., WR, NYJ. FAAB $6. Exchange $15.97.
The usage: 64% of the snaps, 5 targets, 5 catches, 115 yards, a touchdown, 20.0 points. The week before was 82% of the snaps, 7 targets, 19.3.
The opening: two weeks in a row. More points on fewer plays. That's the one thing to watch. Garrett Wilson's targets fell to 3. The share jumped to $15.97 from $8.36, and the updated projection is 7.0 a game, so bid $6, not the share.
Free in 6 of 17. Jets host the Raiders, Sunday 1pm ET.
4. Chig Okonkwo, TE, WAS. FAAB $4. Exchange $7.51.
The usage: last time he played, before the bye, 76% of the snaps, 7 catches on 7 targets, 69 yards, 10.4 points.
The opening: Terry McLaurin is out with a knee. We don't have a timetable past that. Updated projection 5.2 a game. The share is $7.51 off the one game before the bye, so the bid is $4.
Free in 13 of 17, the most available name in the five. Eagles at Commanders, Sunday 8:20pm ET.
5. Zonovan Knight, RB, ARI. FAAB $4. Exchange $5.16.
The usage: 53% of the snaps, 7 carries, 48 yards, 3 catches, 7.8 points. The week before was 15 carries, 80 yards, 10.8. Tyler Allgeier played 47% and scored 6.4, so this is a slight lead, not a takeover.
The opening: Jeremiyah Love is still questionable (ankle) and has no line the last two weeks. If Love practices in full before your claim runs, cut the bid to $1. Some lists call this back Bam Knight. Same player.
Free in 12 of 17. Cardinals at Cowboys, Sunday 1pm ET.
Probably rostered. Claim him if he's free.
- Tony Pollard, RB, TEN. Free in 0 of 17. If he's somehow on your wire, he goes ahead of Wilson. FAAB $12. Exchange $15.40. 75% of the snaps, 25 carries, 129 yards, 3 touchdowns, 35.0. Titans at Bengals, Sunday 1pm ET.
- Braelon Allen, RB, NYJ. Free in 1 of 17. 78% of the snaps, 17 carries, 104 yards, 6 catches, 16.4. Breece Hall is still questionable (quad) and still has no line. If Allen is free, FAAB $8. Exchange $13.76. Jets host the Raiders, Sunday 1pm ET.
- Rachaad White, RB, WAS. Free in 1 of 17. Jacory Croskey-Merritt is still on IR (groin). We don't have a return date. Last time Washington played, White had 69% of the snaps, 7 carries, 4 catches, a touchdown, 13.7. Ekeler was at 10% and McNichols at 18%, so it was a lead, not a monopoly. If White is free, FAAB $5. Exchange $6.33. Eagles at Commanders, Sunday 8:20pm ET.
If those five are gone
In this order. All of them play this week.
- Dameon Pierce, RB, PHI. FAAB $4. Exchange $10.85. 68% of the snaps, 14 carries, 11.3 points. Barkley played and scored 14.1 on 16% of the snaps. Pierce is questionable, and we don't have the injury. If Barkley practices in full, cut the bid to $1. The share jumped to $10.85, and the updated projection is 5.5, so don't pay the share. Free in 8 of 17. Eagles at Commanders, Sunday 8:20pm ET.
- Dylan Sampson, RB, CLE. FAAB $3. Exchange $6.42. 46% of the snaps, 6 carries, 45 yards, 3 catches, 9.2 points. Quinshon Judkins had 17 carries, 96 yards, 2 touchdowns, 22.9, and he has no injury tag. This is the backup, not the job. Free in 13 of 17. Browns at Steelers, Sunday 1pm ET.
- Caleb Douglas, WR, MIA. FAAB $3. Exchange $15.19. 68% of the snaps, 3 targets, 2 catches, 70 yards, two touchdowns, 20.0. The 20 is the two scores. Malik Washington played 80% of the snaps and scored 5.0. Updated projection 6.0 a game. Don't pay the share. Free in 8 of 17. Patriots at Dolphins, Sunday 4:25pm ET.
- Antonio Williams, WR, WAS. FAAB $2. Exchange $6.00. Last time he played, 67% of the snaps, 4 targets, 3 catches, 50 yards, 6.5. McLaurin is out with a knee. Don't start him yet. Stash him and see how the targets split. Free in 11 of 17. Eagles at Commanders, Sunday 8:20pm ET.
Also on the board
- Stash, not a start: Kaelon Black, RB, SF. FAAB $2. Exchange $2.46. The 49ers are on bye. 47% of the snaps, 12 carries, 63 yards, a touchdown, 10.4 points, and that includes a lost fumble. Christian McCaffrey played 52% and scored 19.0, and he's questionable (calf). A handcuff for after the bye, not a start. Free in 6 of 17.
- Not chasing: Mike Washington Jr., RB, LV. His snaps fell from 35% to 27%. 6 carries, 27 yards, 2.7 points. Jeanty scored 17.6 on 72% of the snaps. Exchange $2.42. Free in 8 of 17. The job did not change hands.
- Quarterback, if you need one: Malik Willis, MIA. 208 yards, 2 passing touchdowns, 8 carries, 37 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown, 26.0 points. Exchange $15.62. Free in 9 of 17. Patriots at Dolphins, Sunday 4:25pm ET. Michael Penix Jr. has thrown 3 touchdowns in each of the last two weeks (23.1, then 20.4). Exchange $21.86. Free in 10 of 17. Falcons at Buccaneers, Sunday 1pm ET. Both are streams. Neither is a $10 bid.
- 2QB only: Tanner McKee, PHI. Jalen Hurts is on IR (calf). McKee threw for 211 yards, a touchdown and an interception, 11.5 points. Exchange $7.71. Free in 12 of 17. Eagles at Commanders, Sunday 8:20pm ET.
- Kicker: Tyler Bass, K, BUF. FAAB $1. Exchange $10.71. 17 points in his last game, before the bye. Free in 13 of 17. Ravens at Bills, Sunday 1pm ET.
Where we differ
- Mike Washington Jr. The other lists have him as a top running-back add. His snaps went down, and Jeanty scored 17.6. We are not bidding.
- Jonah Coleman. The other lists are bidding like he has the job. Dobbins and Harvey both scored in the same game. Our bid is $6.
- The drop list. The other lists are cutting Josh Downs, Chris Godwin, Courtland Sutton, Mark Andrews and Tyler Allgeier. Downs played 90% of the snaps (4 targets, 2.8 points, updated projection 7.9). Godwin played 73% (5 targets, 4.7). Sutton played 70% (5 targets, 6.0). Andrews played 57%, and the tight end behind him fell from 40% of the snaps to 22%. Allgeier played 47%. Hold all five.
- Kaelon Black. The other lists want a real bid for a back who can't play this week, in a game where McCaffrey scored 19.0. We want $2, after the bye, if you have the bench spot.
- Two rumors. Kirk Cousins played every snap and scored 20.4. Jonathan Taylor had 18 carries and 18.0. We are not adding a backup on either rumor.
Trade for / buy the dip
- A.J. Brown, WR, NE. Exchange $7.03, down from $8.81. 91% of the snaps, 6 targets, 3 catches, 48 yards, 6.3 points. No injury tag this week. Updated projection 11.1 a game. Patriots at Dolphins, Sunday 4:25pm ET.
- Not this week: Garrett Wilson, WR, NYJ. Exchange $11.63, down from $15.26. 85% of the snaps, 3 targets, 3.6 points, the week after 6.4. The targets went to Omar Cooper. Updated projection 10.0 a game. Hold if you have him. Don't buy the dip.
- Hold if you have him: Matthew Golden, WR, GB. Exchange $16.92, down from $19.52. 85% of the snaps, 12 targets, 6 catches, 39 yards, 6.9 points. He's questionable (shoulder). Updated projection 9.5 a game, so the share is still above the projection. Packers host Carolina, Thursday 8:15pm ET.
Sell / Drop
- TreVeyon Henderson, RB, NE. 24% of the snaps again, 3 carries, 3.3 points. His share fell from $5.12 to $4.00. If he's still on your roster, cut him.
- Tyjae Spears, RB, TEN. If you claimed him off last week's list, cut him. He has no Week 7 line, he's questionable (knee), and Tony Pollard just had 25 carries and 35.0 points.
- Not a drop: MarShawn Lloyd, RB, GB. Josh Jacobs played and scored 17.6. Lloyd still played 36% of the snaps for 4.5 points. Hold him. He's the handcuff.
- Not a drop: Ashton Jeanty, RB, LV. 72% of the snaps, 8 catches, 61 yards, a touchdown, 17.6 points. He's on a team in all 17 leagues we checked. He did not lose the job.
On the Exchange
Wilson at $9.79 is the share if you're trading for the 24 carries. It was $6.56 last week, which is why the FAAB bid stops at $8. Coleman at $7.16 has not priced a featured job, because there isn't one yet. Cooper at $15.97 already priced the second long touchdown, so the claim is $6, not the share.
For the group chat
Emanuel Wilson. 24 carries, 100 yards. Claim him if he's free.
Connect your league
If you haven't yet, connect your league. It takes about a minute. Then the Coach answers with your roster and your wire, so "is he available?" has a real answer instead of a guess. It's also how we built this week's list: the leagues members have connected told us who's really still out there.
Earnings Season: Week 8
Ten questions went up at noon. Estimates lock Sunday at 1pm ET. Thursday night isn't on the slate.
Open Field
Thursday night is Panthers at Packers. Monday night is Bears at Seahawks. Challenge a friend for Week 8 now, and every player still locks at his own kickoff, so the Thursday guys go first and you can keep swapping everyone else until Sunday.
