Week 2 Waiver Wire Pickups

Follow the snaps, not the points.

By the WaiverWire crew.

Week 1 is in. Before you set Week 2: who to add, who to trade for, and who to cut.

Top claims: Black, Coker (if active), Washington.

Every snap, target, and carry below is from Week 1. Points are half-PPR. The useful signal isn't who scored, it's who was on the field. Snap share and targets show up before points do, and that gap is where waiver value lives.

If a name went in the first eight or nine rounds of your draft, assume he's rostered and skip him. The rest of this list should still be sitting on most wires.

Add: ranked claims ($100 FAAB)

1. Kaelon Black, RB, SF. FAAB $8
43% of snaps and a team-high 14 carries next to McCaffrey (65 yards). McCaffrey is not going anywhere; Black is clearly in the plan. Running back is the scarcest thing on waivers this week. Start him only if you're desperate; roster him either way.

2. Jalen Coker, WR, CAR. FAAB $7 if he's expected to play, skip if he's sitting
84% of snaps, 9 targets, 29.8 points (8 catches, 138 yards, 2 TDs). The most obvious add on the board, and he's carrying a questionable tag on the ankle. Check his status before you spend this. If he plays, he faces Atlanta.

3. Malik Washington, WR, MIA. FAAB $5
98% of snaps, 8 targets, 4.8 points. Nobody playing that much stays that quiet. Miami is at San Francisco this week, so this is a roster add, not a must-start.

4. Devaughn Vele, WR, NO. FAAB $4
91% of snaps, 9 targets, 16.4 points. Jordyn Tyson is on IR, and Olave left the game three times in Week 1. Olave is still the WR1; Vele is the volume next to him.

5. Caleb Douglas, WR, MIA. FAAB $4
91% of snaps, 7 targets, 94 yards. Same offense as Washington, so you don't need both unless your WR room is thin. Douglas already produced; Washington is the quieter role. Pick the one that's still on your wire.

If those five are gone, in this order:

  • Kendre Miller, RB, NO. FAAB $3. Nine carries, a rushing TD, and both of the Saints' carries inside the 10 while Kamara is out (knee). Etienne still led the backfield in snaps; the short-yardage work is what can stick even when Kamara returns. Fine as an RB3/flex dart.
  • Matthew Golden, WR, GB. FAAB $3. 82% of snaps and 12 targets. Twelve. He turned them into 12.5 points, and the target count is what repeats. ADP says he was drafted in some leagues, so check before you bid.
  • Denzel Boston, WR, CLE. FAAB $2. 92% of snaps, but only 4 targets. The 12.9 points were mostly one long touchdown (2 catches, 59 yards). Roster the role; don't start him until the targets show up.
  • Cade Otton, TE, TB. FAAB $2. 98% of snaps, 5 targets, 4.1 points. If you're streaming tight ends, this is the one to hold through a bad line.
  • Michael Mayer, TE, LV. FAAB $2. 81% of snaps and a team-high 7 targets with Bowers out. If Bowers is back this week, Mayer's value drops, so confirm that before you claim him.

Injury darts ($1): Rashod Bateman (BAL): Lane (wrist) is expected to miss weeks and Flowers (hamstring) is day-to-day. Bateman is the add if Flowers sits. Tre' Harris (LAC): 75% of snaps and 6 targets after McConkey left with a chest injury. McConkey is only Questionable; Harris is a hold-and-see, not a start.

2QB / Superflex only: Bryce Young just posted 32.4 at home and faces Atlanta. Carson Wentz starts for Minnesota while Kyler Murray is in concussion protocol. Neither is a 1-QB add.

Tyler Warren (93% of snaps, 8.8 points) is a second-year tight end who went inside the top 80 of most drafts. If you have him, keep him. If you don't, he's probably not on your wire.

Trade for these four

Same logic in reverse. Four players people will panic-sell after one quiet week. The snap counts haven't gone anywhere, and Week 1 barely moved our numbers:

  • Ja'Marr Chase: 2.2 points on 94% of snaps. Four targets is the anomaly, not the snap count. We still have him at 14.8 a game.
  • Drake London: 98% of snaps, 4.5 points. We still have him at 12.9 a game.
  • George Pickens: 85% of snaps, 4.3 points. We still have him at 13.2 a game.
  • Terry McLaurin: 87% of snaps, 2.4 points. The role is intact.

DK Metcalf already had the volume (10 targets, 6 points) so he's a hold, not a buy-low. Offer this week, before Sunday resets the price.

Drop

  • Jonathon Brooks, RB, CAR. 19% of snaps, 4 carries. Hubbard played 71% and scored 22.2. The backfield isn't a committee. Drop him in shallow leagues; he's still Hubbard's handcuff in deep ones.
  • De'Zhaun Stribling, WR, SF. Out with an ankle, expected to miss at least a month. IR if you have the slot; otherwise the bench spot is worth more than the stash.
